Western Australia is set to significantly tighten its gun laws following the tragic home invasion murders of Perth mother Jennifer Petelczyc and her 18-year-old daughter Gretl.

Mark Bombara, 63, was seeking his ex-partner when he killed the Petelczycs at their Floreat residence before committing suicide.

The murders have ignited public outrage as Australia continues to confront a persistent domestic violence crisis.

WA Premier Roger Cook announced that the proposed gun safety measures, which will supplement existing firearms reforms, would grant police new powers to seize firearms without a warrant in response to domestic violence reports.

At the time of the killings, Mr. Bombara was a licensed firearms holder. He used a handgun and ammunition that he possessed under a collector’s license. The amendments would impose stricter requirements for obtaining a collector’s license.
