American uni student sparks outrage with essay about ’hostile’ Italians in Florence

An American college student wrote an op-ed about hating her semester abroad in Italy — and it didn’t go down well with European readers.

Stacia Dutskowska, a journalism and international relations major at New York University, published an article this week about studying abroad in Florence for the American publication Insider.

However, thanks to the internet and social media, this story has made its way around the world.

In her writing, Ms. Dutskowska wrote that the experience was not at all what she had expected.
