Carlton ‘breached protocols’ with McKay: AFL
The AFL has stated that Carlton violated concussion protocols by not removing Harry McKay from the field on Sunday, but the team will only receive a reprimand.
Carlton’s claim that its medical staff were too occupied to attend to McKay after his head injury against North Melbourne was partially accepted by the league. In a related decision, the AFL also cleared Adelaide of any wrongdoing in the handling of Jordan Dawson’s concussion on Friday night.
The AFL announced plans to implement a “strengthened process” for managing head injuries starting this weekend. This will include real-time notifications for club football bosses when ARC medical spotters determine that a player requires a concussion test.
