The Islamabad High Court (IHC) took action on Tuesday to suspend the sentence imposed on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case.
IHC suspends Imran
The IHC had previously reserved its decision and then swiftly issued a brief verdict, instructing authorities to grant bail to the PTI leader.
The court announced that it would provide a more comprehensive explanation for the suspension of the sentence in a detailed verdict to be released at a later time.
This decision marks a significant legal triumph for Khan, who had contested his conviction and the ensuing sentence linked to the Toshakhana case.
Earlier this month, a district and sessions court in the federal capital had sentenced Khan to three years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs100,000, after finding him guilty of corrupt practices related to the state gift repository. This verdict also led to his disqualification from participating in the upcoming elections scheduled for later this year.
Following the trial court’s ruling on August 5, the former prime minister was immediately taken into custody and has since been held at Attock jail.
