A district court in Osaka has ruled that a ban on same-sex marriage in Japan is not unconstitutional.
The ruling came as a shock to gay couples and rights activists, when another district court in Sapporo declared the failure to recognize same-sex marriage in 2021 “unconstitutional.”
Japan’s constitution defines marriage between “bisexuals”.
It is the only country in the G7 group of developed countries that does not allow same-sex marriage.
