Kate takes over title from Prince William

Heir to the throne William and his wife Kate raised a glass of Guinness yesterday as they toasted St Patrick’s Day with the Irish Guards.

Kate, 41, officially became colonel of the regiment – taking over from her husband, who as the Prince of Wales is now head of the Welsh Guards. He was recently given this title by King Charles.

He made sure the rain didn’t dampen spirits as he took his first salute at the parade ground in Aldershot, Hants.
