Tennis star takes action after dress causes French Open drama
Daria Kasatkina said she was looking forward to sharing another “good memory” with Veronica Kudermetova when the Russian pair face off in the quarterfinals of the French Open.
Kasatkina, 20th seed, took advantage of the erratic performance of Italian Camilla Giorgi to win the last 16 tie 6-2, 6-2.
Kasatkina made only 10 non-binding errors against Georgie’s 37 in the dominant display on Court Susan Langlin.
Georgie reached the fourth round at Roland Garros for the first time in her career after upsetting seventh-seeded Irina Sabalinka earlier this week, but her race ended there.
In the match against Sabalinka, the umpire talked to Georgie about his dress not being appropriate. The issue was reportedly related to the size of the logo of DeLongi, a kitchen appliance manufacturer, on Georgie’s chest. Before the match, the 30-year-old posted a picture of himself in the locker room on Instagram, tagging De Longhi.
According to tennis commentator Jose Morgado, the umpire told Georgie that she could play in her own clothes but would talk to the “office” about it after the match.
