Brutal dating app truth
Jana Hocking reveals how dating apps
Imagine this: it’s a Monday night, and I find myself surrounded by experts who are all agreeing with a dating theory I’ve quietly believed for a long time.
The theory? That dating apps have taken a negative turn, harming our mental health and draining our finances.
The sense of validation I felt as I eagerly absorbed every word was immense.
So, how did I get there? Well, I was invited to appear on SBS’s Insight program – a show that delves into substantial topics each week. This week’s focus was The Dating Gamble – are dating apps really worth it?
Spoiler: They aren’t.
The guest lineup was a fascinating mix: a couple who found love through swiping, individuals stuck in endless swiping with no success, a financial expert investing in dating app stocks, a researcher analyzing the evolution of these apps, and a psychologist observing their impact on our mental well-being.
And then there was me – a single woman in her 30s, constantly baffled by the dating app scene. Needless to say, the conversation was engaging and, at times, quite surprising.
The episode posed the question: Is searching for love online really worth the risk? Spoiler: No, it isn’t.
