Wild scenes on the streets of Paris as election looms
France’s far-right Snap party could be on the brink of power after winning the first round of parliamentary elections.
Hundreds of left-wing protesters took to the streets in Paris and clashed with police as they set off firecrackers and fireworks, The Sun reported.
Incumbent President Emmanuel Macron’s party and his allies have been left behind in the polls as Marine Le Pen’s national rally scored the first round of legislative elections on Sunday.
Le Pen said Macron’s coalition “almost collapsed” during the first two rounds.
His party came in with 33 percent of the vote, while the left-wing New Popular Front came second with 28 percent.
