Talisman Tolgay Arslan unexpectedly parts ways with Melbourne City

Melbourne City’s 2024-25 A-League title hopes have been dealt a crushing and unexpected blow with the departure of one of the club’s best players, German midfielder Tolge Arslan.

The 33-year-old playmaker had one season to run on his City contract but this week requested an early release, which club officials “reluctantly” agreed to.

Arslan is understood to have cited family reasons for wanting to return to Germany immediately.

“I’m disappointed to leave Melbourne, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to play for City and appreciate the club’s understanding in my decision,” he said.
