Brownlow rule needs review, says rival
AFL 2024: Patrick Cripps calls for Brownlow eligibility rule review
Patrick Cripps says he will be disappointed to see Isaac Heaney disqualified from the Brownlow Medal as he calls for a review of the award’s criteria.
Cripps, who is considered one of Heaney’s main challengers for the game’s most prestigious gong, said the Swans superstar had played “the right way” and had been suspended for hitting St Kilda’s Jimmy Webster. So he did not deserve to lose the medal.
Heaney was due to challenge his one-match ban on Tuesday night when he tried to push Webster to the ball but tripped up the Saints defender during the final period of Sunday’s loss to the Swans.
