Neom’s floating city

Neom’s floating city is going to be the “world’s largest floating structure” called Oxagon.

The city will be built in Saudi Arabia’s south-western region of Neom, the new megacity of the future, and Saudi officials claim it will be 33 times the size of New York City.

The Red Sea, which is an average of 500 meters deep, is where half of the Oxagon will float.

The city is expected to be powered entirely by renewable energy and will make use of the Internet of Things, artificial and predictive intelligence, as well as robotics. With this technology, it will create “a seamlessly integrated, intelligent and efficient supply chain”.

Oxagon is a prominent part of a larger initiative known as Saudi Vision 2030. With the aim of weaning the country’s economy away from its heavy dependence on oil, the project was created by the Saudi Crown Prince.

As part of this transformation agenda, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Mohammed bin Salman have unveiled 47 major projects of which Oxagon is just one.
