ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is presenting the federal budget for 2024-25 as the PML-N-led government aims to secure a new long-term International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout package.

Aurangzeb, serving as finance minister for the first time, started his budget speech in the National Assembly amidst a loud protest by opposition lawmakers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council. They stood on their desks, chanted anti-government slogans, and tore up copies of the Finance Bill 2025.

“Despite fiscal and political challenges during the past one year, the government’s progress on the economic front has been impressive,” the finance minister said in his opening remarks.
